The exam has a maximum duration of 20 minutes. It consists of two dialogues, each containing multiple segments you interpret from English into your chosen language and back.

The exam fee is approximately AUD $800, though this is subject to change. Check the NAATI website for the most current pricing before registering.

No formal interpreting qualifications are required. The test is open to candidates who are applying for a Skilled Migration visa and have strong bilingual ability in English and a recognised community language.

You can retake the NAATI CCL after a waiting period. NAATI sets the retake rules and eligibility conditions, so check their official website for the current policy on re-sitting the exam.

The NAATI CCL credential is valid for 3 years from the date you passed the test. Check NAATI's official website for the most current validity rules before planning your PR application timeline.

NAATI offers the CCL test in a wide range of community languages including Arabic, Hindi, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Punjabi, and many others. CCLMagic currently provides practice content for Arabic, with Hindi, French, and Filipino (Tagalog) in development.

The exam is conducted online via Microsoft Teams. You will need a computer or laptop with a working camera and microphone, and headphones are mandatory — built-in speakers are not permitted as they cause echo issues. You must be in a quiet room and have photo ID ready for verification.

CCLMagic provides realistic bilingual interpretation scenarios across 9 key topic domains (Health, Legal, Employment, Housing, Immigration, and more), timed full-length mock tests, and segment-by-segment practice. All content mirrors the NAATI CCL format, including two dialogues and real interpreter-style responses.

After you record your interpretation, CCLMagic uses OpenAI's Whisper to transcribe your speech and GPT-4o to evaluate it against the reference interpretation. You receive a score out of 45 per dialogue along with bilingual feedback covering accuracy, omissions, additions, and fluency — the same criteria used in the real NAATI CCL exam.
